Puppet Workshops: JULY 2016

Puppet Workshops at CoCA This Month

Cairns, 7th July, 2016 –   Children will be creating their own puppetry magic in two special one off workshops at the Centre of Contemporary Arts (CoCA) this month.

With two world class puppetry performances coming to Cairns, venue manager Charles Wiles said it was only fitting to make the most of their expertise, sharing it with talented local children interested in a career in performing arts.

“CoCA will be presenting The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer by Tim Watts on July 12-13 and Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s The Little Prince, which is based on one of the most popular children’s books ever, on July 21.”

Charles said the performers behind The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer would put on an improv puppetry class, giving participants the chance to learn more about working with puppets on Wednesday, July 13 at 4pm.

“The class is designed for puppet enthusiasts aged eight and over,” he said.

Also holding a workshop on Wednesday, July 20 at 4.30pm will be Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and the talented performers that bring The Little Prince to life.

“Those attending will have the opportunity to work with puppets from Australia’s oldest puppet theatre company,” Charles added.

The cost per participant is $10 or $5 when booking a ticket to the respective show. The recommended age for both workshops is eight and over.
