Paradiso Cafe

Media Release:

Cairns, 29th July, 2015 – With great flavours, local ingredients, superb atmosphere, Paradiso Cafe is the coolest contemporary dining space to open its doors in Cairns at the Centre of Contemporary Arts (CoCA).

With tropical palm trees, cool whites, great artwork, relaxed music, and pops of green with large comfortable scattered cushions, Paradiso Cafe in its first week of trade has become a lively hub of activity in its own right and an extension of the dynamic arts program offered at CoCA.

Charles Wiles, venue manager at CoCA, welcomed the addition of Paradiso, which has been well received by patrons.

“The deck at the front of the building has been transformed and the venue is now alive, bustling and we are finding that people are enjoying the relaxed, cool vibe of the cafe. They are coming to hang out, drink great coffee and eat locally inspired food, with most of the ingredients used collected from Rusty’s Markets.”

Mr Wiles said it was an exciting time for the dedicated contemporary arts precinct on Abbott Street, with the cafe in line with the growing activity and strategies to activate the Centre along with key development initiatives including the New Move Dance Program and Fresh Ground, a flexible program providing artist-focused project planning and production support with residencies of three to 18 months.

The Centre of Contemporary Arts is also home to JUTE Theatre Company, Kickarts Contemporary Arts and End Credits Film Club.

Mr Wiles said diners were being encouraged to stroll through the galleries after their meal, take in a show (dependent on event scheduling) or have a ‘selfie’ with the jelly babies hash tagging #jellybabiescairns.

“You’ll never know who you will meet on the deck and in the last week, the cafe has already become a place where artists, patrons and those passing by can all mingle, feel at home and relax in the tropical vibe that Paradiso has created.

“We would like to congratulate owners Jay Horne and Andy Graham for creating this fantastic space that completes the Centre,” he added.

And his tip…try the Jelly Baby Rocky Road. “There are some great dishes on offer but for a bit of fun and a lot of sweetness, you can’t go past this signature treat,” he added.

Paradiso is currently open every day from 7am to 4pm as well as for select evening events (refer website for opening times).
