DANCE WORKSHOPS DRAW IN COMMUNITY AT CoCA

Cairns, 17th October, 2015 –  A series of dance workshops will be held over the next two months at the Centre of Contemporary Arts forming part of its flagship Dance 15-16 program.

Facilitated by the New Move Network, Dance 15-16 forms part of the Centre’s development program.

New Move Network project coordinator Rebecca Youdell said the workshops offered a fantastic program of professional classes led by some of Australia’s leading and most respected choreographers and artists.

“These workshops provide local independent dancers or those interested in learning more about dance access to an open class with a national practitioner.

“We have had people travel from the Atherton Tablelands to participate already, highlighting the need for this level of engagement in our community.”

The next two workshops will be held September 21 and 28 and will be facilitated by Ms Youdell while the next series of workshops scheduled to run from October 19 to November 23 will welcome visiting experts.

“Contemporary dance has a language, and visiting choreographers will have their own vocabulary or spin on it, which provides diversity, access to a high skill level and a flavour which locals can explore.”

Ms Youdell said the choreographers were still being finalised and an announcement was likely later this month.

The workshops are open to beginners, as well as dancers at an intermediate level and teachers looking for skill enhancement and refreshment.

“Participants can unwind, work out, improve flexibility and gain strength through a fun, creative, challenging and expressive session.

The cost to attend each class, which run from 6pm to 7.30pm, is $10. For more information, or to attend a workshop visit www.artscairns.com.au or phone 4088 1010.

The New Move Network is made up of a consortium of independent dance artists in partnership with key stakeholders – the Centre of Contemporary Arts Cairns, Ausdance Queensland, and the New Move Network.
