Dance Students Learn From The Best

Cairns, 16th June, 2016 – North Queensland dance students will have the opportunity to learn from one of the dance industry’s best during a one-off masterclass with Raghav Handa.

The Sydney-based professional dancer is in Cairns ahead of his performance Mens rea: The Shifter’s Intent, which will be showing at the Centre of Contemporary Arts on June 24-25.

Raghav said the masterclass would take students on a look inside the workings of the show, with the opportunity to also learn an excerpt of the work as well as engage with the 3D technology used throughout Mens rea.

Presented as part of the New Move Network program, Mens rea explores the mythology of “shape-shifting”, which is the ability of an entity to physically transform into another being or form, and is set against the background of the Indian epic, Ramayana.

Shifting between three of its principal characters Jatayu, Sita and Ravana, Handa explores the shift in their intent as the trigger point of their physical and emotional transformation.

“Students will be given an opportunity to see up close the making of a work from inception to presentation.

“A lot of these students are going to be makers in the future, and if they are interested in progressing as artists, it is vital when they are younger to start thinking about the process and what is involved in creating a full length work.
