A Laugh Out Loud Comedy

Cairns, 28th September, 2015 – Tickets are selling fast for what will be one of the highlight acts of the Tropical Mardi Gras Festival – The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical, opening at the Centre of Contemporary Arts this Friday, October 2.

Running for two nights (Friday and Saturday) and presented by the Centre of Contemporary Arts (CoCA),Tropical Mardi Gras and Pretty Peepers Cabaret, The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical is a hilarious ribald act that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.

The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical brings together a number of comedic skits involving genres such as standup, live storytelling, video mashups, performance art, physical theatre and UV Illusion.

The star of the show, Glitta Supernova, is an international burlesque performer from Sydney. She said her work has always been to show what it is like to be a woman in today’s society and why it is important to have a strong female identity.

“I don’t want to portray the mass media heteronormative female that is everywhere. Most of my work is about pulling apart all those stereotypes and laughing at how ridiculous they are.

“Hopefully through the laughter we can transcend and evolve and heal,” she said.

Glitta said the show dealt with women and their place in society, and believed it was something most people, whether they are male or female, could relate to.

“You do not have to be queer or a woman to enjoy this show, even men who some might describe as ‘yobbos’ have laughed really hard.”

When asked about her own sexuality, Glitta said she had been expressing her sexual identity for as long as she can remember.  “I’m a queer artist, but I’m not  governed by sexual labels anymore.”

She said she was thrilled to be bring The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical to Cairns, beyond the inner urban hipster audiences of the big cities.

“I love taking my work into rural and regional areas, when I performed in Alice Springs the audience went berserk, they loved it,” she said.

The Glitta Supernova Experience is one of the feature acts of the 10-day Tropical Mardi Gras Festival, formerly Cairns Tropical Pride, which will run from October 1 to 11.

The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical opens from Friday, October 2 until Saturday, October 3 at 8pm at CoCA. Tickets cost A$29 and C$24 and can be purchased at www.artcscairns.com.au.
