CoCA Presents: Glitta Supernova

Media Release:
Glitta Supernova

Cairns, 15th September, 2015 - It’s risque a little off-kilter, and hilariously funny, The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical will have Cairns audiences on the edge of their seats when she performs her ribald act at the Centre of Contemporary Arts early next month on October 2-3.

The star of the show is international burlesque performer, Glitta Supernova who delivers a twisted, cockeyed, screwball, sex comedy served on a platter of society’s malfunctions.

Presented by the Centre of Contemporary Arts (CoCA),Tropical Mardi Gras and Pretty Peepers Cabaret, The Glitta Supernova Experience is one of the feature acts of the 10-day Tropical Mardi Gras Festival, formerly Cairns Tropical Pride, which will run from October 1 to 11.

Tropical Mardi Gras Festival director, Zelda Grimshaw said the show is a parody of gender stereotyping, burlesque, and strip tease in an outrageously funny, physical theatre performance.

“This is fall off your seat comedy. I would describe it as both beautiful and ugly, raw and very polished all at the same time,” she said.

Ms Grimshaw said the show does contain some nudity and sexually explicit content and was recommended for audiences over 18.

“Cairns rarely sees performers who share so much about their LGBT identities and gender diversity, and we know this show will be an absolute hit during the festival,” she added.

The Saturday night performance will also have an Auslan interpreter. “We welcome this opportunity and we know the deaf community in Cairns will really make the most of this service,” she added.

The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical performance has been the second runner up for the ABC Performance award for the last two years running and has been the recipient of the Special Commendation Weekly Cabaret Award.

It was also nominated best cabaret at Fringworld Perth, one of the largest annual fringe performance platforms held in Western and Southern Australia.

The Glitta Supernova Experience: Let’s Get Metaphysical opens from Friday, October 2 until Saturday, October 3 at 8pm at CoCA. Tickets cost A$29 and C$24 and can be purchased at www.artcscairns.com.au
