CoCA Presents: Flaunt

Media Release:
Time To Flaunt It

Cairns, 18th April, 2016 – After a sell-out season in 2014 Claire Marshall returns in 2016 with the return season of her hit new work Flaunt.

Director and choreographer Claire Marshall, has worked with some of the music industry’s finest including Darren Hayes, Kate Miller-Heidke, Megan Washington, Little Birdie, The Sleepy Jackson, John Butler Trio, Powderfinger and Tycho Brahe, and she now takes over the Centre of Contemporary Arts for a dynamic two-night performance not to be missed.

Flaunt is a unique examination of women’s gender, sexuality and power. Claire’s work as a contemporary choreographer for the stage and screen comes to the fore in this new collaboration, which takes the smoke, mirrors and glamour of night clubs and embeds it with a clever and insightful look at female sexuality and empowerment through different stages of history.

“Flaunt is about the representation of the human body in popular culture. Specifically, it’s about how young women project themselves in social media, and the sexualised representation of the female form,” Marshall said.

Performing to a thrilling soundtrack, the show is centred around a human size perspex cube, which is metaphorical for a glass ceiling. The narrative starts in the future, before taking people back in time only to return to the future once again.

Marshall has been making a big splash in the local dance industry for years. In 2015 she won the prestigious Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance on Film for her bold and engaging film Ward of State

Flaunt will be performed on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23. Tickets cost $29 and $24 concession. The show contains sexual themes and is recommended for ages 15 and over. Haze effects and strobe lighting is used in this production. Book online at
